The following set of links will provide additional educational information for children who wish to study or learn more about hurricane and weather-related activity in the U.S.

  • Miami Museum of Science
    The Miami Museum of Science created this web site for elementary school students. The pleasing graphics and colors should appeal to all elementary school students. Some of the typeface is small, and this site may be best used by a younger elementary school student with someone to help read and navigate the pages.

    An elementary school student in grades three through five should enjoy this site.
  • Enhancement Learning
    Students in elementary school will have fun with the hurricane pages at Enchanted Learning. Each topic is presented in an easy-to-read screen-sized box of text. There is very little scrolling needed, and minimal mouse clicks.

    Elementary school students will learn about hurricane formation, names of hurricanes, structure of hurricanes, classification of hurricanes, hurricane tracking, hurricane preparation, hurricane landfall, and there is even a useful hurricane glossary.
  • Canadian Hurricane Center
    Hurricanes are very large and powerful storms. They can bring heavy winds, rain and flooding to a region. Scientists are studying how these storms form, how they work and where they go so that we can be better prepared when a hurricane hits.
  • KIDSTORM
    Pages devoted to tornadoes, lightning, hurricanes, and storm chasing. Focused toward older kids and teenagers, but interesting for all ages. Great place for young people to gather information for school reports.

    Using their Interactive Weather Maker, you'll be able to turn a sunny day into a windy day. Or create a rainy day. And if you create the correct conditions, you can make a blizzard - complete with a whiteout.
  • Weather Wiz Kids
    This educational weather site for kids has it all! Written by a professional meteorologist, it contains a wide variety of fun weather facts, weather folklore, weather games, weather jokes, and many other weather related experiments and activities.
  • Climatoligist's Toolbox
    Created for Junior High and high school students, this site is part of the Why Files created by the University of Wisconsin, Board of Regents.
  • Owlie Skywarn's Tornado Page
    This site tells kids what to do to protect themselves from a tornado if in a house, in a trailer, a shopping mall, or outside.

  • The Disaster Area by FEMA for Kids 
    Although disasters themselves aren’t fun, learning about them is! This FEMA for Kids page explores weather related disasters and their origins.

    Specialized Weather for kite flying from Intellicast. Take a ride on the virtual kite flying applet, and see the effects of weather conditions on your electronic rig.
  • Make Your Own Weather Station
    Brought to you by the Miami Museum of Science. Using regular household items and a few thermometers, kids can build a weather station that measures wind, air pressure, moisture and temperature.
  • PBS "In Focus" Floods Page for Students
    Includes information on floods and stories about rescues of people and animals.
