On July 23, 2008, Hurricane Dolly (Category 2) reached the Texas coast near Brownsville. In the past 100 years, this part of Texas has had only two Category 2 hurricanes.
On September 1, 2008, Hurricane Gustav (Category 3) reached the Lousiana coast just west of New Orleans.
On September 13, 2008, Hurricane Ike (Category 2) made landfall at Galveston Island, Texas, and caused damage throughout the entire Greater Houston region.
