2008 Gulf Coast Hurricane Summary

  • On July 23, 2008, Hurricane Dolly (Category 2) reached the Texas coast near Brownsville. In the past 100 years, this part of Texas has had only two Category 2 hurricanes.
  • On September 1, 2008, Hurricane Gustav (Category 3) reached the Lousiana coast just west of New Orleans.
  • On September 13, 2008, Hurricane Ike (Category 2) made landfall at Galveston Island, Texas, and caused damage throughout the entire Greater Houston region.
